Tonight, we attended a men's bbq at the Baptist Church in town. Most of the churches in Kununurra were represented and about 30 men were there.
Phillip Zamagias spoke to us about the ongoing translating and distribution of Bibles, books of the Bible, and other forms of media like spoken language mp3s being distributed to Aboriginal communities in their own language. This in itself was encouraging and exciting - especially when he placed a player on the table and played the story of Zacchaeus in Kriol and the Aboriginals present almost leapt out of their seats for joy.
But what was most encouraging was his address to us about Jesus Christ, and the answer he gave to the most important question anyone can ask - who is Jesus?
We were taken on a journey as we looked at what Jesus did, the miracles and signs that He performed, what He said about himself and what John the Baptist and what God the Father said about Him, and about the Holy Spirit who descended upon Him.
We looked at this through the eyes of Jesus' disciples - as they grappled with this question and did not really understand the answer until Jesus died and rose again.
John the Baptist said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." (John 1:29)
God the Father said, "Thou art my beloved Son, in Thee I am well-pleased." (Mark 1:11)
Mark 1:10 says, 'And immediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavens opening and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him.
We were exhorted to remember that Jesus is not only our friend, but most importantly, He is God and all authority has been given to Him both in Heaven, on the Earth and under the Earth, and to ensure that we honour Him, glorify Him, worship Him, fear Him and obey Him.
Praise God for sending His only Son to die to take on Himself the penalty for sinners - sinners like me - so that we can live, that we can enjoy a fully restored relationship with Him as it was before the fall, and that He has given us the incredible honour of being called His children.
What a privalege it is to be able to hear the Gospel again and again in this country. How can we not work with all our heart to ensure that every nation, every tribe, every language, every people get to hear the good news about Jesus Christ.
To God be the glory forever and ever amen!!!
