Today was a wet one - so we were confined to working in the shed. None of the new staff are used to the rain so they continued to get around in thongs. Needless to say, it was funny watching people lose their footware - and balance - in the mud.
I had my first training shift in the transmitter room tonight - monitoring alarms, dashes, computers and signals, changing antennas etc. Tomorrow I will be in there again from 5.30am to 11am. After that, the next shift will not be supervised. Due to the small number of staff here in the wet season, those who are here take turns on the transmitter roster. There is a lot of time to kill between broadcasts so I may be able to do some database work for HCJB with that time.
Jodi and the kids travelled around town with Kim (Jodi's dad - who drove up only two days after we did for a short holiday and a look in) Our LPG packed up on the 4wd this morning so Jodi had a tow from the RAC to a service station. We are very thankful that she was in mobile range and not far from town. Expecting high rainfall in the next week or so and many roads will be closed. Those that remain open will be driven on very carefully!
