Our latest adventure was at Andy's chasm, not far from HCJB. Mike Moore, who previously ran HCJB Kununurra and still lives in the area, took us on a guided tour!
It was quite an arduous journey - we parked the car in the river bed and went over a field of boulders and continued up the river bed for about an hour and a half before we reached Little Andy's Chasm. It was gorgeous which you can see, even though it's impossible to do it justice with a camera.
The water was freezing, with lots of little fish and water monitors (lizards), however the bottom was rocks and sand, not mud which makes all the difference for me! As you make your way up the chasm, you can climb a series of waterfalls (which weren't really flowing yesterday due to the lack of recent rain) into a series of beautiful, deep, crystal clear and cold pools.
After Little Andy's Chasm, we continued up the river to a smaller chasm and beyond. It was just beautiful with all the usual wildlife.
Don and I shared our favourite part of the day last night. Don had a few favourite parts:
1. Managing not to eat the frog which jumped into his mouth.
2. Seeing legs on the water monitor which swam very purposefully up to him.
3. Half drowning grown men with his bombie in a water hole
4. Revenge on Lex: Lex kept splashing him, and Don gave him a splash with knocked him off his feet. I think you could call that a Shrek moment.

The day was the perfect combination of hard work with cooling refreshment. The colours of the rock walls and landscapes were gorgeous (get it?).
It was an amazing day - it took about 8 hours and the kids were little troopers.

It's an amazing day today too - the day we celebrate Jesus' resurrection! Please click on the previous post to see "The Power of the Cross." We showed Ben and Kira and they were quite sobered - not many of the kids' books convey the depth of his suffering and we felt they were ready to see this. We explained that this physical suffering was only the tip of the iceberg - his real suffering was the separation from the Father as He turned away from Jesus and our sin. Thank God we are saved from that separation. Happy Easter!
